Recent Accomplishments

Below, please find a letter from the Department of Transportation (DOT) which all members should find of interest.

In May the association learned that the DOT was going to eliminate fleet identification numbers from vehicle title registration, which would cost members 100’s of 1,000’s of dollars in administrative staff hours, as well as renumbering and re-identifying all commercial vehicles.

We met with the DOT on two separate occasions and at our last meeting the DOT agreed to reverse it’s decision and is now once again going to be including fleet vehicle numbers of vehicle registration forms.

I want to thank John Carew of Carew Concrete and Supply and Shawn Triller of Wingra Redi-Mix for all of their efforts. We would also like to thank Secretary Frank Busalacchi, as well as DMV administrator Bev Nelson.

Dear Valued DMV Customer,

As you know, we are very close to implementing our new title and registration system. Last winter we sent you an update on our redesign progress. At that time we announced that we would not be able to store fleet numbers in our new database or print fleet numbers on the documents we issue. Since that time, we have heard from many of you. Your message was very clear that the fleet number field was very important to the operation of your business.

With your business needs in mind, we re-assessed the problem. By making some programming and system adjustments, we found a way to capture and retain the fleet number field, store those numbers in our new database and print them on the documents we issue. The field will be alpha-numeric and accommodate up to 10 characters. This number will be printed on your vehicle title, registration renewal notice and certificate of registration.

This fleet number capability will be available approximately 3 months after our initial implementation as part of a system enhancement. If you have questions or concerns regarding our title and registration system redesign, please call or e-mail the DMV Project Leader Cherie Imhoff directly at (608)266-8965 or by email at cheryl.imhoff@dot.state.wi.us.

Thank you.

Frank Busalacchi
Secretary
